STAAR Surgicals headquarters get state-of-the-art communication technology
LightWerks partnered with STAAR Surgicalto integrate advanced audiovisual solutions throughout their headquarters in Lake Forest, California. STAAR Surgical, a leader in ophthalmic technology, designs, develops, manufactures, and markets implantable lenses for the eye with companion delivery systems. Their lenses offer patients visual freedom, reducing reliance on glasses or contact lenses. These foldable lenses allow for minimally invasive surgeries through small incisions.
The magnitude of this project was substantial, encompassing multiple Executive Offices, Boardrooms, Collaboration Spaces, and more. Every room across the facility was outfitted with Microsoft Teams Rooms technology, ensuring a user-friendly and consistent experience for all STAAR employees. This cohesive design enables team members to easily transition from one space to another—whether it’s an office, a boardroom, or a collaboration space—using the same straightforward connections to start meetings or present. This level of uniformity enhances both productivity and user confidence, ensuring that employees can focus on their work rather than learning different systems for different rooms.
The highlight of this project is the Experience Center, which offers a comprehensive and cutting-edge training environment for ophthalmic professionals. This center includes the Practice Room and Lecture Room, both equipped with 165” Sharp/NEC DVLED displays, Crestron Flex Teams UC Systems, and advanced AV over IP (AVoIP) technology. This system enables seamless content sharing between the rooms or across the entire facility, furthering the efficiency of training sessions. Each room offers a clean, streamlined interface that employees can control via wall-mounted and wireless touch panels, ensuring ease of use.
The Practice Room features multi-window DVLED video walls that allow for up to four simultaneous displays and support workstation connections for interactive training. The Lecture Room is similarly equipped, supporting STAAR’s advanced diagnostic technologies, including the OCULUS Pentacam AXL, IOLMaster 700, and CIRRUS 6000.
STAAR Surgical’s new Experience Center is a critical addition to their professional education programs, which include digital training, wet labs, peer mentorship, and proctorship. “We are thrilled to open our expanded Experience Center, offering cutting-edge resources and training for ophthalmic professionals,” said Tom Frinzi, President and CEO of STAAR Surgical. “The center reflects our commitment to supporting the growing demand for EVO ICL and advancing its global adoption.”
In the Executive Offices, Collaboration Spaces, and Medium Conference Rooms, LightWerks installed Sony displays, Crestron Flex kits with touch panels, and Crestron room schedulers, all integrated seamlessly into the Teams environment. These additions have optimized communication and collaboration, saving time and streamlining operations. The Medium Conference Rooms were further equipped with AVer cameras, Shure ceiling microphones, and ceiling-mounted speakers for high-quality video conferencing. The Large Boardroom is similarly equipped with Sony projectors, AVer conferencing cameras, and Crestron Flex systems, all providing a clean, consistent, and easy-to-use interface.
In public areas like the Lobby, Gym, and Breakroom, Sony displays were installed for digital signage, providing STAAR with flexible communication tools for employees and visitors.
LightWerks designed these spaces to enhance efficiency, improve educational outcomes, and add value to STAAR Surgical’s programs. The system’s ease of use, combined with its powerful capabilities, allows employees to transition effortlessly between rooms and devices. This flexibility saves time and improves workflows, supporting STAAR’s mission to provide state-of-the-art training and education to ophthalmic professionals.
The Open Event Space—featuring a 135” Sharp NEC Video Wall—serves as a versatile area for large presentations, training sessions, and events. Equipped with Crestron control systems, Shure microphones, AVer cameras, and additional Sharp NEC displays, this space adds another layer of functionality to the overall design.
The technology integration across the entire facility has already garnered recognition from professionals and students alike. The return on investment for STAAR Surgical is clear: the new systems improve operational efficiency, streamline workflow, and significantly enhance the educational experience for ophthalmic professionals. LightWerks worked closely with STAAR to ensure that the integrated technology aligned with their strategic objectives, supporting business growth while improving learning outcomes.
STAAR Surgical’s comprehensive range of education programs, including live webinars, the annual surgeon summit, and ongoing support through STAAR University, are now better supported by these advanced tools, ensuring that STAAR continues to lead the industry in ophthalmic training and innovation.
