LightWerks Helps Transform The Buckley School’s STEAM Program

LightWerks has a longstanding relationship with The Buckley School in Los Angeles. Over the last several years LightWerks has partnered with this elite, K-12 independent school to enhance their facilities through the integration of state-of- the-art educational technology solutions.

One of the most impressive projects completed by LightWerks at Buckley was the Math and Science Building. The ground floor of the project included physics, chemistry, and biology classrooms and lab spaces, as well as physical and earth science classrooms. Also included was an outdoor media area. On the second floor, LightWerks integrated technology in the math classrooms, as well as a seminar space, and the digital media lab. Advanced source switching between multiple displays, interactive projectors, and video walls are supported by a Crestron backbone and controlled via the customized Buckley Crestron application on teacher iPads.

Teachers are able to control audio, classroom lighting, and advanced display solutions. With flexibility, differentiation, and ease of use, instructors can send multiple microscope images, as well as content from ceiling visualizers, computers, Blu Ray players, Cable TV, and more to different displays across their classrooms, giving students simultaneous access to different sources of content with the press of a button. The system also includes lecture capture and streaming solutions. In addition to the design, installation, and programming, LightWerks provided Buckley’s team of teachers and instructors with training and professional development to ensure that they utilized their new AV solutions with mastery and confidence.

LightWerks not only conducted initial AV training courses, but also provided Buckley with a year of onsite training and support. A LightWerks Education Consultant was on the Buckley campus for the school year to answer questions, troubleshoot, and evaluate the implementation of the new AV solutions.

The Math and Science Building was the first of several large scale AV projects by LightWerks, and it marked the beginning of a strong, ongoing partnership. Several other buildings, including Buckley’s state-of- the-art Center for Community and the Arts, have been completed since then. It holds five classrooms, the English department offices, and a flexible theatre /assembly/   event space. Classrooms in this buildings were outfitted with interactive projectors and Crestron touch control via the custom iPad application. The theater includes front and rear projection systems, pan/tilt cameras, and advanced audio, including wireless microphones, multiple speakers, digital audio mixing, and an assisted listening system. A customized Buckley Crestron control system with a two touch panels and iPad control give end users control of this sophisticated, and yet easy to operate system.
