LightWerks integrated AV at Marine Science Center

The USC Wrigley Marine Science Center on Catalina Island, California, is a state-of-the-art research center and teaching facility is available for use by USC faculty and students, researchers from other universities, conference organizers and a wide range of educational groups.

LightWerks was asked to provide audio visual system for three rooms; one auditorium, one large conference room and a classroom.

The auditorium had an audio/video control system that was outdated and not working. They also had a need for distance learning and presentation recording. The challenge was that the whole audience needed to be equipped with microphones with minimal ambient noise. LightWerks designed a microphone array with choir mics that resulted in excellent micing of the audience. JBL, AT, Biamp and Black Magic provided the products. Lightwerks also rebuilt the lectern with new laminate and added a new Crestron control panel. The conference room was updated with a new Extron control system and video transmission. An Epson projector and JBL speakers were installed in the classroom.

The project had to have meticulous planning because the island has no resources for hardware and supplies and all the AV gear needed to be loaded on a small boat.
