LightWerks updates AV technology at Optometry college
The College of Optometry at Pacific University offers students a top-notch optometric education focused on clinical expertise, research, and service to the community. LightWerks partnered with the university to update the technology in their classrooms, vision labs, and lounge areas. The updated equipment and technology will provide a state-of-the art clinical training experience for Pacific’s optometry students, and give them the opportunity to put their practical knowledge to the test in a clinical setting. Using state-of-the-art technology, students will learn clinical procedures for comprehensive eye exams, contact lens education, ocular disease, and more. The renovation has maximized space to allow for more practice lanes for students to apply what they have learned, while updated equipment and technology means that optometry faculty will be able to teach with tools and technology that mimic what is used in the college’s Eye Clinics. These updates provide students with the tools they need to prepare them for any type of practice they might work at during their rotations and beyond.
The technology in the labs allows instructors to highlight specific procedures so that students can view and refine the techniques they will use for treating their patients in the coming years. LightWerks integrated HDMI input plates for slit lamps (a slit lamp is a special microscope and light that allows doctors to view a patient’s eyes in 3-D, both inside and out.) throughout the lab, as well as for instructor laptops. Extron matrix switching allows content from any of the sources to be sent to any of the 4K commercial grade SONY Bravia 65” flat panels in the room. Audio is routed into an amplifier and fed through 7 JBL26CT ceiling speakers distributed throughout the space. The lab is controlled by a 7” Extron wall mounted touch panel that allows for the source routing, source selection, and audio for the system.
LightWerks installed SONY WUXGA 6100 lumen laser projectors along with Chief mounts in the college’s classrooms. The images are projected onto 113″ diagonal size HC Matte White, Manual pull down screens.
In order to capture both students and instructors for far-end soft codec conferencing, LightWerks integrated ceiling mounted AVER tracking cameras in the back of the room, and wall mounted AVER PTZ cameras in the front of the room. SHURE MXA910W ceiling microphones were installed to pick up audio from the instructor and students. Superior sound is supported by the integration of 6 JBL ceiling speakers, along with a new amplifier. Classroom audio is routed into an Extron digital sound processor that sends the audio to the PC for use in soft code calls such as Zoom.
The classroom’s lecterns include HDMI and USB inputs for instructor laptops, as well as AVER M70-W document cameras. All of the sources are routed into an Extron switcher, and controlled by an Extron touch panel on the lectern.
Lounge areas at the College of Optometry now include SONY 4K 75” commercial grade monitors. LightWerks installed Extron HDMI and USB input plates below the monitors for laptop connectivity. A Logitech Rally Bar was installed below the monitor that includes a camera, speaker, and microphone suitable for these spaces. The room is controlled with an Extron MLC62 controller.
