LightWerks Partners with First New Medical School in Kansas

LightWerks partnered with this elite, nonprofit osteopathic college to engage in a complete design build for their brand new, state of the art facility in Wichita, Kansas. The 3-million-dollar project is the first new medical school for Kansas in 100 years. Featuring a clean inspirational design, the innovative integration includes networked audio-visual technologies in learning and simulated spaces such as large lecture halls with control rooms, small group study spaces, exam rooms, standardized patient teaching rooms, podcast rooms, osteopathic manual manipulation labs, virtual reality anatomy labs, study rooms, conference rooms, offices, boardrooms, simulation rooms, and more.

The integration involved the modernization of a 116,000 square foot historic building that now serves as a training center committed to instructing well-prepared physicians and health care leaders who will positively contribute to the overall well-being of their communities. The learning spaces combine the latest advances in medical technology with state-of-the-art hybrid learning AV solutions.

Bose VB1 all in one sound bars and 65” Samsung displays were integrated into study rooms and office spaces to engage both in-room and remote participants. Medium and large conference rooms were outfitted with Samsung displays ranging from 65”-85,” as well as Vaddio conferencing cameras, SHURE MX microphones, and Bose speakers. Crestron touch panels ensure that the operation of these spaces is simple and user friendly. To maximize workflow and organization, and increase productivity, room scheduling solutions from Crestron were also integrated to learning spaces. The enterprise-grade scheduling panels include illuminated indicators that specify whether a space is in use or available, and also give users access to the room’s upcoming availability. Users can book a space from their desk, their personal device, or on the spot.

Lecture halls at the osteopathic college were outfitted with Christie projectors and Draper screens, as well as multiple Samsung displays to support stunning visuals and offer multiple, simultaneous sources of content.  The displays are used not only for primary content sharing, but also as confidence monitors and reinforcement monitors for students in back of the room.  Leveraging the projectors and displays to magnify the manipulations being demonstrated, lecturers are able to offer both in-person and remote learners crystal clear image magnification.

Shure MX microphones and Bose speakers were integrated into lecture halls for advanced audio.   Encoding and decoding is supported by Visionary Solutions technologies.  To ensure that remote participants receive an equitable learning experience, three Vaddio Roboshot 12E PTZ cameras were installed to provide multiple angles of view.   In addition to these PTZ cameras, LightWerks also integrated cameras by Verkada to support exam proctoring in classrooms and lecture halls.  The technology involves facial recognition of students and staff.  The AV systems support audio and video recording over the school’s network.  Controlling the advanced audio-visual systems is made simple by Crestron touch panels, as well as Extron annotators, which were integrated into Spectrum Industries lecterns.  Listen Technologies assisted listening solutions were integrated into learning spaces to support the hearing impaired.

To engage students, faculty, and guests with relevant content related to the college, LightWerks integrated Samsung Digital signage throughout the campus.  Using MagicINFO software, the powerful platform serves to communicate campus activities such as upcoming events, important deadlines such as registration or tuition, class schedule changes, community news, and emergency announcements.

To enable environments where ideas can come to life, LightWerks creates versatile and reliable audio-visual solutions that suit an organization’s unique needs and space. We specialize in the integration of innovative, state-of-the-art hybrid communication solutions that add value to the way people work, learn, and thrive.   Our solutions strive to give students the same learning experience, whether they are on campus or attending virtual classes using Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or another platform.
